I can see how some people would dislike this place--it is a little outdated, and the paint is clearly old. But the room was spacious, with a view of the harbor, and clean. The amenities are cool, even though we didn't get to enjoy the pool, it is centrally located, and the hotel people were SUPER nice. The first night, one of our sons had an overnight accident, next day we left the mattress pad out as per instructions, and when we came back a couple of hours later, the pad was washed and back by the room. The hallway was full of families like ours--the rooms were super cheap, and spacious enough to accommodate four or even five people, with two parents and three kids, for example. You enter the suite directly through one of the bedrooms, so it's not the fanciest thing in the world, and a barn-like door on a rail separates the main bedroom from the living room area. The king size bed was wonderful though, and though we did not use the pull out couch in the end, we did note that it would have fit two adults no problem. Parking was included and free! That's a rarity in Rhode Island's cities, so we appreciated that--and we didn't even have to navigate one of the weird parking lots on the wharfs. I can see how in the summer it would be hard to find parking, but the hotel is also located literally less than 5 minutes walk from the Newport transit center, so you could easily leave your car there. Overall, a hit with our family, we will most definitely be back.
