The Neighborhood:
The Faubourg Marigny neighborhood is the art and music center of the city. It is still very much a neighborhood with historic homes and corner shops. Rated one of the best neighborhoods in New Orleans, with locally owned art galleries, boutiques and restaurants popping up all over and at the center of it, the live music scene of Frenchmen Street. St Claude is a budding new part of the new culinary and nightlife of our neighborhood, all within walking distance.

The Faubourg Marigny, commonly just Marigny, is a hip neighborhood just "below" (down river from) the French Quarter. Best known for the great live music district on Frenchmen Street, the Marigny also offers neighborhood cafes & businesses, historic architecture, and more. It has the air of what the French Quarter was in it's golden days. It has a few small hotels, and many bed-and-breakfasts, as well as a number of good restaurants, coffee shops, and music venues. Architecturally, the Marigny is known for its many styles of Creole cottages, most of which date to the 19th century. Its "heart" is Washington Square Park (bounded by Frenchmen Street, Royal Street, Dauphine Street, and Elysian Fields Avenue). Frenchmen Street is the main nightlife district, with half a dozen live music clubs and just as many restaurants in four short blocks. At Mardi Gras, the Marigny is one of the city's hidden hot spots. Very popular with locals, who enjoy partying in the streets without the busy atmosphere of Bourbon Street. Crowds gather at the corner of Royal and Kerlerec (outside of R-Bar Inn) as well as at the intersection of Royal and Franklin. Elaborate costumes are the order of the day, along with brass bands and many drummers. Two weeks before Mardi Gras, the Marigny is also the starting place for the Krewe du Vieux, a satirical, raunchy parade in 19th-century Carnival style! Complete with small floats drawn by krewe members and mules. Local cafes, restaurants and music venues line Frenchmen Street. Known for its bohemian atmosphere, the Marigny is home to many artists and musicians, as well as a sizable gay and lesbian population. Among its notable residents are chef Paul Prudhomme, painter James Michalopoulas, and actors Harry Shearer and Jennifer Coolidge, who can be seen around town when they're not working in L.A. Local writers include New Orleans mystery writers, Julie Smith and J.M. Redmann, as well as Andrei Codrescu, Michael Swindle, and Kevin Allman. Frenchmen Street is in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood just below the lower edge of the Quarter. A 4 block stretch of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops mixed with live music venues make it one of the city's most hip places, catering more to locals than tourists (though tourists are certainly welcome, and welcomed). On any given night, one might find modern jazz, swinging traditional jazz, Latin American style music, rockabilly, and more within this small area.

Getting Around:
Parks, Restaurants, bars and plenty of other amenities are well within walking distance from this apartment.

Great Value and Location in Marigny, with Issues
Roomy, clean 1 BR place has a lot going for it -- kitchen looks new, nice fridge, sink. Good water pressure, plenty of hot water. Spacious living room with (small) TV, desk, foldout couch. Very nice queen bed. We slept well. Bathroom good, if small, with large shower. Nice towells. Just blocks from Frenchmen, a superb grocery and great Marigny restaurants. BUT . . . the couch is broken down and uncomfortable. We were especially unhappy to find there was no table and chairs to sit and eat. Had to sit on the couch to eat, which gave us a disincentive to enjoy takeout meals. The coffee table is seriously rickety -- it could be easily repaired but instead was just junky. The kitchen equipment needs some simple upgrades -- junky coffee mugs, no wine glasses. In the bath, towell hooks falling out of wall. Front patio -- on the web site -- looks inviting, but turned out scruffy and junky, with bags of cement stored beneath the air conditioner and old furniture with no reason to be there. The metal gate into the patio apparently could not be locked -- a security concern -- inviting vagrants to enter. Lastly, it turns out that busy Elysian Fields Boulevard is a favorite cruising spot for jerks playing loud music in their cars -- but earplugs solved that. In general, felt safe walking around day/night. Would recommend for those OK doing a lot of walking to get to the Quarter; those who plan to stick to Frenchmen Street and the Marigny; those who don't mind the issues mentioned here.

Praktisk beliggenhed
Stedet er rent og pænt men bærer præg af stor slitage. Der reklameres med opvaskemaskine, men vi fandt den ikke.! Der er meget støj fra en stor indfaldsvej, så en god ide med ørepropper. Køkkenet er lille men funktionelt - dog er der ingen spiseplads, så vi sad ved skrivebordet. Møblement og interiør er meget slidt og trænger til udskiftning. Praktisk beliggenhed med gå afstand til det meste og der er købmand lige overfor.

Photos are accurate. Very clean! Everything you need is there. The parking directly in front can be tricky on weekends since there's a bar a few doors down and across the street plus a busy coffee shop on the corner. If you're a traveling medical professional and don't mind that this spot is safe! There's a gated private patio that I enjoyed after work. Management is accessible and quickly replies! A grocery store and Starbucks across the street!

This was an amazing experience. Very helpful owner and the lady that came to clean when we were leaving ran out to bring us some items we forgot. Amazing location right near the quarter and marigny but in a quiet part! Also parking was shockingly easy.

It was difficult to get the keys from the lockbox upon check in. The locks on the front door are not in good repair, to the point I didn’t know if it was going to lock when leaving and returning. They really need to be replaced. Apartment smelled musty, appeared to have been cleaned and left empty a long period of time. It could have used a refreshing. We needed more than one set of towels for sure. Communication with property owner was difficult. In fact, at one point I couldn’t find the keys and my only point of contact was email. I never received a response. Glad I found them! Otherwise, totally felt safe just feel there is quite a bit of potential for it to be an awesome property with a little improvement.
