Such a unique and exquisitely restored building! It is beautifully decorated in time period appropriate furnishings with no detail missed. You should stay here for a night just to enjoy the hotel. There are plenty of common areas for socializing, whether reading a book, enjoying a good conversation, drinking with friends, or playing pool.
However, while the accommodations are well kept, the surrounding area needs a little TLC. It is a very lively area with much shopping and a lot of restaurants, but many of the nearby buildings are run down, graffiti-clad, and littered.
Sidewalks are packed and the night life goes to early in the morning. We did not have a problem sleeping as the sound was muffled once you close the second set of doors going out to the balcony. The B&B leaves ear plugs next to the bed in case you are a light sleeper.
Note that you must coordinate your arrival beforehand so that someone can come down and let you in when you arrive. After that, you will be given a code for the door to the building, which is actually a small door inside the giant front doors. Then, you need a key card to take the elevator to the 1st floor (the ground floor is 0). And, lastly, you will get keys to open the door to your room. You will need the room key both when you open the door to get in AND to open it to get out. And, we found out the hard way, you will lock yourself in the bathroom if you don’t bring the keys in there with you!
