The property is quirky, steep steps up to the door but once you're in it's really quite nice. The wardrobe is an old suitcase on its side with an added rail, and the drawers are also an old suitcase.
The area looks rough but it's ok. There was no trouble whilst we were there. If you keep out of their bisiness, they'll keep out of yours. The location is great, close to the metro and the square behind Hotel Mundial is the start of the tourist area which is lovely.
You can wander around and always find something new around the next corner or at the end of the street. It is very, very hilly though with steep roads and lots of steps.
The host did not give us any details on how to access the property before we arrived. He knew we would be there around 11.30 pm and I messaged him once we were in Martim Moniz but I received no reply. We arrived at the property but Miguel was not there, I called him but there was no answer. I contacted VRBO and they could not contact him either. They said I would receive a call to find us alternative accommodation as it was past midnight by this time but I did not get the call. We were wondering around trying to find a hotel that had 24hr reception and also had availability. We found one in the end but it cost us 196 euros, not a great start to our holiday.
Just make sure that you receive access details before you go. We did get access details the day after from Miguel so all is good apart from being 196 euros down.
