Overall, the hotel was just okay. For a newer property, I expected less wear and better upkeep. Our stay got off to a poor start. When we checked in, our room was clearly not clean. There were crumbs on the floor, and the bedding had obviously not been changed—very stained sheets, hairs and large makeup marks on the pillows. It was disgusting and made us want to leave. I asked to be moved to another room but was told the hotel was sold out. Housekeeping had already gone home, which was shocking for a sold-out Hilton property on New Year’s Eve. I was offered clean sheets to change the bed myself, which was not acceptable. This is where Harold at the front desk deserves credit. Despite being the only staff member on site, he contacted housekeeping to locate clean bedding and personally came to our room between checking in guests to change the sheets himself. While it took time, it became clear he was doing the jobs of reception, housekeeping, and more. The situation itself was unacceptable from a management standpoint, but Harold did everything possible and was appreciated. Guests should be aware breakfast ends early. On New Year’s Day, it was done by 9:00 a.m. We had to drive 15 mins to Birch Run for food. The next morning we arrived at 8:30 a.m., but all fruit was gone, and there were no refills. I have a gluten allergy, and aside from plain yogurt, there were no options. Overall the stay fell short of expectations for a Hilton property, but Harold’s service was exceptional.
