We had this booked in Aug of 2025 and when arriving on check in day (12/19/25), were told the unit wasn't available due to family of the owners staying there. We understand mixups happen, but in speaking with two different people on property that day they insisted "we don't use VRBO and there is no way you could have this reserved through that platform." We had corresponded with the owner upon booking 4 months previously and showed the messages to them, but they insisted this was somehow OUR mistake. The real problem becomes that we are now needing a 7 night place to stay, with only a hour's notice, we have our pets with us, and it's Christmas week. We had chosen this rental due to proximity to the family we were visiting and them allowing our pets. The only option we found was significantly farther away from where we needed to be, cost MUCH more money, and didn't' feel nearly as safe of an area. When the initial refund was sent, the email from VRBO stated we were receiving approx 400 extra from the owners, presumably to compensate for the last minute inconveniences. VRBO never actually sent those extra funds, and we had to open a case with them to even get the booking fees back. So we were still out the extra money for a last minute rental. VRBO was horrible to deal with on returning of the fees. I cannot comment on the rental itself b/c we never entered it. My advice to future renters: be sure you communicate DIRECTLY with the owners the week of arrival.
