With the government shutdown and announcement of a mandatory in flights across the country, we cancelled our airline tickets and drove from Missouri to Charleston...a little over 15 hours. Upon arrival between 4 and 5 pm...the loft was not cleaned after the last guests left. There were towels in a bag on the floor, trash in the kitchen, the bed was not made and still showed the outline of whoever laid in it last. We contacted the host via phone and vrbo message, and after waiting for 30 minutes or so reached out to VRBO. VRBO was not able to reach the host, but managed to keep us on the phone for nearly an hour...sent photos, etc only for them to tell us there is nothing they can really do...we essentially have to wait for the host to respond...whether it is hours or days. After the long drive...and uncleaned place...we were pretty upset. Not sure what all the vrbo fees are for if they can't help you when an issue arises. We eventually hung up the phone as they were completely useless...and we found another place to stay for the night where we had a clean bed and clean towels to use. The host send us a text that night around 9:30 pm after we were already in bed after all the driving. In Ashton's (the host) defense, he was very responsive the next morning and worked to get our reservation cancelled and refunded. We wish the place had been clean, or the host had been available...or at least that VRBO had been helpful in ANY way, I bet the place is normally very nice.
