We stayed from 2/11/26–2/15/26. The property is advertised as 100% smoke-free, and at check-in we were informed there would be a $250 charge if smoke was detected in the room.
There was a persistent cigarette odor in our room, particularly in the bathroom area. We reported it on the first night and were told it would be investigated. We heard activity upstairs, but no one followed up with us and no one entered our room to assess the issue.
The following day the smell returned. When we called the front desk again, we were told that if we were smelling smoke, it “had to be us” because we were allegedly the only occupants on the floor — which was later confirmed to be inaccurate.
I have asthma, and the smoke exposure caused coughing and respiratory discomfort. During the stay, I also developed a severe case of pink eye requiring medical treatment. While I cannot definitively link the cause, the overall air quality was concerning.
We escalated the issue to Red Roof Guest Services, but our complaint was forwarded back to the same hotel staff. Expedia also contacted the property on our behalf; however, the hotel declined to provide compensation. Expedia ultimately issued a $50 courtesy credit.
After escalation, the hotel repeatedly called our room and cell phone. At one point, while we were asleep, a staff member knocked and attempted to open our room door. The door did not open because
