Shouse - Hot Tub - Mini Highland Cows!!!

Our shouse is located just outside of Emmetsburg. It is a central hub for a number of activities. Acres of public hunting surround our property and provide will hours of enjoyment watching the animals in the adjoining 1,000 (+) acres public land. Our herd of miniature Highland cows will also provide entertainment while you relax under the covered porch or in the hot tub.

Peaceful

Our stay at this property was thoroughly enjoyable. Located off a paved road in a peaceful rural setting, the home offered a quiet and scenic environment. The surrounding landscape was beautiful, and our children particularly appreciated watching the cows graze and observing a large storm roll in—an experience that added to the charm of the location.The home was thoughtfully furnished and well-stocked with all necessary amenities. The inclusion of king-size beds in every bedroom was especially appreciated and contributed to a very comfortable stay.The only minor drawback was the presence of a single bathroom, which required some coordination among our group. While we did not have the opportunity to explore the trail on the property, it appeared to be a wonderful feature and is something we hope to enjoy on a future visit.Communication with the owners was excellent. They were responsive and helpful throughout the process, and both check-in and check-out were seamless.Overall, we highly recommend this property for those seeking a tranquil and well-appointed countryside retreat.

This was very clean and exactly as described. We enjoyed the peaceful, rural area and enjoyed watching the Highland Cattle from the hot tub. Really lovely view. The hosts were very welcoming and responsive. It has a great area to gather and talk and the kitchen has all you need. Beds were comfortable.

Family Time

We enjoyed our stay immensely at the Shouse at Highland Hills Hideout. It was clean, cozy, and super comfortable. The hosts were warm and welcoming, very easy to communicate with. Then there are the cows! It was very relaxing. We visited the Grotto of the Redemption in West Bend while we were there. Wonderful.Plenty of cafes in Emmetsburg if you don't feel like cooking.We look forward to staying here again.

Red Power Round Up

We were very impressed with our stay at the shouse during Red Power Round Up. Every detail was thought of and taken care of. Our favorite part was being able to spend time helping to feed the baby calves. The property was very clean and nice with so many included amenities. We had such a nice time staying here! The accommodations were great, everything was so clean, and we had everything we needed for an amazing girls weekend! The only criticism I would give was on our second night, a man let himself into the Vrbo which we thought was a little odd. Such a comfortable place to spend the weekend, would definitely recommend to others/come again!

Spur of the moment getaway

My husband and I wanted a quick weekend getaway. The Highland Hideout was exactly what we needed. Hot tub with amazing country views. “Funny farm” animals that were beyond cute to watch. Brand new amenities that enabled us to truly relax like we were at home. The Hideout is close to town so you can run in quick if you forgot something and is a short 20-40 minute drive away from all of the popular tourist sites near Spencer/Okoboji. Thanks Billie Jo & Thad, we can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful place!!

The shouse was beautiful, really wonderful, so modern and clean, but also so comfortable. The king size beds were great. Had everything we needed. Amazing and peaceful getaway

The SHOUSE was beautiful and just what me and my family needed to celebrate my birthday and completion of cancer treatments. The hosts were friendly and easily accessible when needed. Weekend Getaway at Highland Hideaway

The family had an amazing time! The kids loved the animals and helping feed them. This place is beautiful and well stocked for anything you would want to cook. Perfect Girls' Weekend Spot

The Highland Hideout was the perfect spot for our girls' weekend! The Shouse was so clean and inviting. The kitchen was well-stocked for all the cooking we wanted to do, and the beds were very comfortable. The owners were so friendly and communicative; we knew exactly what to expect before we arrived and Billie Jo went out of her way to make us feel at home. We enjoyed playing games, using the hot tub, walking on the trails by the river, and feeding the calf and miniature donkey. We loved our quiet weekend in the country and would love to stay again!

Absolutely amazing!!!

Very welcoming all around!! Quiet and relaxing, enjoyed sitting out in the evenings and enjoying the view and walks to the river. Showed the kids the animals and let them help them out!
