I stayed at Esplanade Zagreb Hotel for two nights and had mixed feelings about the experience, therefore 3 stars.
The hotel is beautiful and historic, and several staff members were excellent. The door staff, luggage service, and breakfast team were friendly, professional, and top-class.
After check-in, I requested a room change due to significant street noise. The staff was helpful, and the second room was indeed much quieter. However, although I was told it was the same Superior category with the same bed type, the room felt noticeably smaller and less luxurious. Unlike the first room, the bathroom and toilet were not separated, and the overall sense of space and comfort was reduced.
After the room change, I called the front desk to mention this. I was asked whether it was a “problem,” and since I did not want to be impolite, I did not label it as such at the time.
At checkout, I was not asked whether everything was satisfactory, and the process felt rushed. I raised my concerns on my own initiative, but they were handled dismissively. I was told that next time I should communicate my preferences in advance, which felt contradictory, as I had already done so during this stay and my reasonable expectations were still not met.
Overall, the hotel has many strengths, but consistency within room categories and the handling of guest feedback could be improved.
