Escape to a cozy mountain retreat in the heart of southern Vermont, just 10 min. from Mt Snow, Wilmington Village, and Lake Whitingham. Whether seeking a personal escape or gathering with a group, this thoughtfully designed lodge-inspired home offers a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern amenities for a comfortable stay. Explore local artisan shops, eateries, breweries, and farmers markets, as well as endless outdoor adventure activities, for the ultimate mountain escape.
The house features a double-height living area with exposed beams and charming wood-burning fireplace. Ideal for cozying up on chilly evenings, this area is stocked with games, puzzles, blankets, firewood, a smart TV, and plenty of comfortable seating.
During the warmer months, relax by the fire pit or southern exposed wrap-around deck, complete with gas grill, spacious dining table and umbrella. (Outdoor dining furniture is out May-October, fire pit is available year round)
The deck spills out from the sun-filled dining nook, centrally located in the open concept living, dining and kitchen areas. Enjoy sunny meals and sunrise views with a wooded backdrop of glistening trees.
The kitchen has new stainless steel appliances, and is well-stocked with cooking and serving supplies (many of which are made by local potters and artisans). There are also kid-friendly options. Prior to arrival we send a full list of provided equipment and supplies for planning purposes, it's also included in the photo collection.
There are 3 bedrooms:
- The first floor bedroom has a king bed, ideal for guests who would prefer to avoid stairs.
- There are two second floor bedrooms with queen beds.
- The queen bedroom furthest from the activity and noise of the main living space, is best for those who need to break away for work or phone calls. It has two desks on either side of the bed, with a task chair and separate lounge chair, that can function as workspace, dressing table, or night stand.
Each bedroom has a closet, dresser, mirror, suitcase racks, and hooks and hangers for personal items. The temperature can be individualized by room, there are air conditioner window units in each bedroom in warmer months, and beds have white cotton sheets and a variety of pillow type options, for personalizing your experience and ensuring a restful sleep.
There are 2 full bathrooms (with shower / tub), one on each floor, with direct access from each bedroom. Bathrooms are stocked with essentials. (See Supplies List.)
The loft nook is a small break out space open to the living area below. This fun area evokes relaxing under the stars, as there is a large skylight overhead. It has a couch and bean bag chair. Great for kids, reading or when a personal moment is needed away from a larger group.
The mudroom entrance provides a spot for your outdoor gear, with cubby storage and space for a few skis / snowboards. Three sets of snowshoes are provided for use. There is also a washer / dryer and laundry supplies in the Mudroom.
Guest access
The house is located within the Chimney Hill neighborhood of Wilmington, on the Southeast slope of Haystack Mountain. It sits toward the top of the neighborhood (at an elevation of 2150 ft) on a quiet 1/2 acre lot, with a small yard and two sided deck, and faces a large unoccupied wooded area in the front of the house. There are two visible neighbors that can be seen from the back/sides of the lot (one closer and one a bit more distant), but mostly the house and deck are nestled among the trees and opposing woods offering a sense of seclusion and immersion in nature. There is plenty of parking for 3-4 cars.
Guests enjoy access to all Chimney Hill amenities, including nearby community lodge / clubhouse with fitness room, indoor / outdoor pools, arcade, hot tub, and lounge. There are also outdoor tennis, volleyball, basketball, and bocce courts, trails for hiking/ snowshoeing, and snowmobiling, and an outdoor ice skating rink in the winter.
------
Please note: The house is located on a dirt road with some steep and windy sections leading up to it. Roads and driveway are plowed and sanded daily in winter months, but good tires and rugged cars are a necessity in snowy, icy, and muddy conditions. You will see signs in the neighborhood stating snow tires are required: We understand this is not always possible, but please plan accordingly for mountainous conditions.
