When you book a room through a discount travel site, the hotel has certain rooms reserved only for those guests. We have all experienced this. A situation developed when we entered the room assigned to us from the hotel. The room smelled overwhelmingly like mold and cleaning fluid and large chipping paint in the bathroom ceiling. When I went to the front desk and explained the situation and asked to move to another room, at first they did not want to give me another room but when another staffer explained they were other rooms in our "Sales category" we were able to move. The next room was fine. The issue here is the hotel staff new the first room we were in had that odor and chose to still put us in it. I then said so you knew they had an issue but you still put people in it because of the sales category. Interestingly, I counted only eleven vehicles in the parking lot that night. Which meant that over 80% of the hotel unoccupied.
