The photos and other reviewers do not lie: The view from VelBela is simply incredible. The house is located near the highest point in La Cadena, the range of mountains north of Añasco, and overlooks the plain across the Rio Grande de Añasco south to Mayagüez. Bring a tripod for amazing time-lapse videos of clouds moving across the sky and ocean. Benjamin, the host, is very responsive and helpful. The house is pleasant and comfortable, with spacious bedrooms and a well-equipped kitchen. We had only two (very minor) issues. First, the hot water apparently comes from a solar heater, since it was often not even warm in the morning or on overcast days. (The outdoor bathroom shower has an electric heater which worked OK.) Second, probably due to the house location at the top of a mountain, it was very windy and thus often quite noisy in the house; the wind rattles and whistles in the metal doors and windows at night, especially if any windows are open for ventilation. (It might not be a problem if all the windows are closed. We didn't use the A/C at all and left windows open at night.) As I said, it was a minor annoyance at most, but it might bother light sleepers. Overall, VelBela was a wonderful place to stay, in fact one of the best vacation rentals we have ever stayed at.
