Our 9 day stay in Casa Rumi, on the top floor of Villa Poema de Amor, completely exceeded our expectations! The building itself is stunning, perched on the top of the hill overlooking the ocean, at the end of Calle Vista Mar.
The rooms in Rumi are magical. All round, no square corners, each with high domed ceilings made of brick, beautiful tile work, decorative angels, with exceptional vistas of the ocean, beach and sky. From the private terrace with palapa, there are views of the jungle and nearby casas. Pretty much a 360 degree view of the surroundings. The king size bed is a Sealy Posturepedic, hands down the most comfortable bed we've ever slept on in Mexico, and has really nice linens and pillows. Waking up in it and being able to look right out at a 180 degree view of the ocean and sky was an amazing way to start our day.
The kitchenette is very nicely outfitted, with custom made dishes. There is a coffee maker, toaster, blender, micro, small but adequately sized fridge, two burner gas stove, sink and all the utensils you'll need. We were welcomed with a pound of coffee from the nearby hills and a six pack of beer.
The modern safe in the closest has electronic key pad to enter your own personal key code. We felt confident leaving our valuables in it. And we felt safe at all times in town and on the property, which is gated & surrounded by a wall topped with scary sharp pointed cutters. Caretakers Francisco and Ines live onsite, which helps with security.
The bathroom has the most spectacular view of any bathroom I've ever been in! We needed the air conditioner at night to keep cool enough to sleep, but during the day we had the windows wide open to let the breeze in. The pool downstairs is large enough for 6 or 8 people to cool off in at the same time, but we were lucky enough to have the whole place for the 2 of us for 5 of our 9 days.
Down the back steps of the villa, only a 4 minute walk through the graveyard, is Playa de los Muertos, a small, clean beach where it is safe to swim--no big undertow--and a lifeguard on duty at times.
The photos are completely accurate, but really don't do justice to the expansive beauty you'll see. The property manager, Nick was extremely helpful during the booking process and met us when we arrived and walked us through, answering all our questions. Having gushed now for all these sentences, I think I'd rather keep this place a secret, because we are already planning our return trip!
