Upon check-in, I found that the room had an unpleasant odor, the bedroom door had a noticeable defect, and the cleanliness was below standard. These are basic issues that should have been addressed before my arrival, but the host clearly did not inspect or maintain the property in advance.
Although the host offered to send a handyman and cleaning team after I raised the concerns, guests should not have to pay for the host's negligence, nor should they spend their stay dealing with problems that should have been resolved beforehand. Given the unacceptable condition of the room, I ultimately had to cancel my trip.
What made matters worse was that the host only offered a 50% refund, attached to a condition that is nearly impossible to fulfill: they said they would refund the remaining amount only if the dates get rebooked. However, looking at this property's booking history, it's clearly not in high demand. That promise was nothing more than an empty check.
In short, this was a very disappointing stay. I hope the host will face up to their own issues instead of making guests bear the consequences of poor maintenance. Not recommended.
