DIY Disaster: Renovated Old House with Cut Corners - Our VRBO disappointment
The neighborhood was run down and scary at night. The neighbors dogs (3 pitbull mix of them) barked all night. There is a train close by as we did hear one during the night. The property was a raised house that was extremely dated but recently renovated by what it appers tobe diy'ers. The main kitchen cabinets were what looked to be original plywood cabinets that were poorly painted blue. There were multiple cracks in the drywall in some of the rooms. The house had a old musty smell which could be smelled upon arrived. The smell inside was masked by glad plugin's and febreeze and what looked like an air purifier in each room. However they were dirty and not plugged in. The bedroom fan controls had no batteries. The fans were connected to the main lights so once you turned off the light the fan also turned off. There were no bathroom fan vents to remove steam. The tub in the master was missing the drain stopper. The roku box in one bedroom was unplugged and not working. The guest wifi network could not be found on any device and was slow. The kitchen towels had hair on them. The fridge and freezer was dirty. The floors were not mopped as our kids feet at bath time were black with dirt. The front door was locked with a note that said if opened it would sound an alarm. You share a driveway with neighbors. The house was spacious enough for 6 adults and 2 children. The house was decorated nicely however would have appreciated more time and detail spent in the renovation.
