My husband and I spent two peaceful weeks in Peter's Orient Point house while I recuperated from knee replacement surgery. The house is perfectly situated directly on the Sound, at the end of a private gravel drive, with empty fields to the right and ample property buffering it from the neighboring home on the left. The photographs capture the spectacular views from almost every room in the house, but they can't convey the sense of perfect peace at early morning, or twilight on the terrace, watching the sailboats silent on the water and the diverse wildlife venturing out amid a glorious sunset. My husband spent many hours happily surfcasting from the rocky beach, with no one else in sight; Orient Point is literally a few minutes away; and Southhold and Greenport not much farther. The house is open, airy, and spacious, with large bedrooms to accommodate a much larger group.
Appliances can be quirky, but Peter is readily available and happy to help and answer any questions. He also went well above and beyond in insisting on setting up a bed for us in one of the two downstairs living rooms despite my protestations that I could manage the steep stairs. He was right, and I blessed him many times during the first week and a half before we were finally able to take advantage of the lovely master bedroom and bath. (And that was before he visitted with a generous array of get well brownies!) We certainly hope to return, when I am better able to fully enjoy this wonderful property and the beautiful North Fork.
(Do be aware that there is a full apartment on the ground/garage level that Peter reserves for the occasional use of his family. This was not a problem for the two of us, as the family was very discreet over the two weekends they were there, but if complete privacy and exclusive use of the property are essential it would be advisable to check beforehand as to whether the apartment might be occupied during the rental period.)
