The Hotel is far, and the road have many hard curves, but it was easy to find and worth the cost.
The room is big enought to 4 people, warm, comfortable beds and the breakfast was very good and complete.

"First, the positive: The room was renovated! The rest of the hotel is in an absolutely desolate state. Old, worn, and not at all like the pictures on Hotels.com. The onsen, and especially the sauna, are on the verge of collapse. Absolutely unacceptable. The foreign staff, from Nepal or Pakistan, are unfriendly and arrogant—there's no Japanese atmosphere at all. I've been traveling to Japan for onsen 5-7 times a year for over 12 years. But this hotel is a disgrace."
"The first thing to say is that this hotel is a bit of a walk from the Tobu-Nikko station and probably is better suited to people arriving by car.
The second thing to say is that they have a bit of an annoying guest registration where you have to enter a lot of information on a tablet computer, even if you entered it already while booking.
But what was so great here was that the room felt really luxurious, the own little onsen bathtub was suprisingly popular with us and we really loved it.

"We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Ootaki. It is Like 15 Minutes by feet from the Station and a Konbini is 8 minutes away. You can walk to many bridges with beatiful views. The Room was clean an very big. We enjoyed the private Onsen every evening (They got 2). Public Onsen ist also accessible for free, but since we got Tattoos we only used the private ones. Highly Recommend this one! "
"Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit und versucht alle Wünsche zu erfüllen. Dennoch gibt es mächtige Verständigungsprobleme, da das Personal kein oder nur sehr schlecht Englisch spricht. Bemüht und freundlich alle ohne Ausnahme. Unser Typisch japanisches Zimmer war sehr schön, das Bad allerdings nur ein alte Plastikkabine, der Toilettenraum viel zu klein. Es gab aber ja die schönen, ebenfalls alten Onsen. Die hatten was. Die Aussenfassade ist wie alles in dem Ort baufällig . Dennoch haben wir uns arrangiert und aufgrund des netten Personals, des guten Essens und der schönen Onsen ab Tag zwei recht wohl gefühlt. Das Hotel war immer voll und ist bei den Japanern offensichtlich gehypt 4 Sterne insgesamt? Nein. "
"Das Hotel ist das erste westliche in Japan eröffnete. Das und die dortige Atmosphäre sind die Übernachtung schon wert. Das Gebäude versprüht nostalgischen Charme und das macht den besonderen Reiz aus. Zimmer sind groß
