DO NOT BOOK at RIU Negril, Jamaica – A Horrible Guest Experience
I checked into RIU Negril on Monday, August 29. On the morning of October 2, I woke up covered in numerous bug bites, many in linear patterns, which is consistent with bed bugs. As the day progressed, the itching became unbearable and I counted over 25 bites on different parts of my body.
I reported the issue to the front desk on Thursday evening, and after some back and forth, I was moved to a different room. I was told an inspection would happen Friday morning. It’s now Sunday, I left the establishment yesterday and still have not heard from RIU nor Expedia. There has been zero follow-up from hotel staff.
When I voiced my concerns at the front desk again, I was told to send yet another email to RIU’s complaints department – the third one – and was informed that staff could no longer assist me. Despite clearly showing them the bites and asking for help, I was told nothing could be done until after the inspection, which still hasn’t happened. I even had to request bags to seal my belongings in hopes of preventing bringing the infestation home.
I’m currently in severe discomfort, and the hotel has been completely unresponsive and dismissive. The customer service at RIU Negril is appalling, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.
I stayed at Sandals in June, and the contrast in service and professionalism is night and day. At Sandals, I felt cared for. At RIU Negril, I feel ignored and disrespected
