Clarance Gonstead Guest Cottage, Präriestil und Gezeitenwasserzypresse

Clarance Gonstead Guest Cottage wurde für den weltweit renommierten Chiropraktiker 1952 von Architekt gebaut, Herb Fritz Jr. in der Prairie-Stil der Architektur gemacht von Herb Mentor, Frank Lloyd Wright beliebt. Das Haus liegt zentral in der Stadt auf zwei Morgen gelegen und vom Haupthaus getrennt. Das Äußere ist mit Tonfliesen und Lanon-Stein verkleidet, und die Innenflächen sind Stein- und Gezeitenwasserzypressewände mit Steinbruchfliesen und Teppichböden.

Die hügelige lokalen Terrain, verlassene Ebene Schiene Straße Wanderwege und Off-Road-Strecken im Nationalpark bieten Gelegenheit für alle Ebenen der Bike-Enthusiasten. Mount Horeb verfügt über einen 18-Loch Golfplatz, Freibad und fast wöchentlich organisierten Veranstaltungen zu Fuß erreichbar. Die Fußbodenheizung mit Fußbodenheizung und die Nähe zu Downhill- und Langlaufloipen bieten einen idealen Rückzugsort im Winter. Leider mussten wir uns an alle anderen Herbergen anpassen und die Verwendung des Holzfeuers einstellen, um die Versicherungsbeschränkungen zu erfüllen 4K-Fernseher mit einer Soundbar, die das visuelle und akustische Ambiente einer Vielzahl von Holzfeuerstellen bietet und der Boden für die Wärme sorgt. Sie haben auch die Flexibilität, einen Film auf einem Internet-TV anzusehen.

Revisiting one of our favorites

We stayed at this property 7 years ago and had a wonderful time. Revisiting last weekend was a fantastic experience and reinforced why it’s a favorite memory. Anne and I stayed for a cozy get-away. Once again Joyce and Phil’s communication and assistance was perfect. The style of this property is so unique and decorated to accentuate it. Visited some local restaurants and bars plus a trip out to Paoli. But mostly we just enjoyed reading and listening to music in the cozy guest house despite the cold and snowy weather outside.

Home away from home

A wonderful location to spend time

This is a wonderful cottage in the Prairie style of architecture located in Mt Horeb just a short drive from Madision. Well within walking distance of the downtown and the hosts provide bikes which can be enjoyed both in town and along the local bike trail. The host and hostess were delightful and an excellent resource regarding the community. The cottage exceeded my expectations

The perfect staycation

My partner and I traveled here from Milwaukee for a weekend staycation. What an absolute gem! The pictures are accurate. The cottage has everything you may need, including a fantastic sound system. Although there was no AC, we couldn’t tell, and this was early July. The house does a good job keeping things cool on its own. I hope we will be able to come back and enjoy more of the cottage and Mount Horeb.

Wonderful place to stay in Mt Horeb

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Clarence Gonstead guest for two weeks in June. It is a great place, cozy and comfortable with plenty of space for two people, a well equipped kitchen and even a terrific sound system set up with a great play list. The cottage is a only a short walkable to the center of town, but feels like you are in the country because of the large lot and beautiful gardens. Very quiet. Hosts were superb; friendly, welcoming and always helpful. They felt like old friends. Aside from the shops and restaurants in town, there is a lot to do in the area: biking (a nice trail runs through town, and the roads are also safe), hiking (try the Ice Age Trail or Blue Mounds or Governor Dodge Park), swimming (Gov. Dodge), picnicing, theater at Spring Green (about 30 minutes), and tons to do in Madison, which is only about 30 minutes away (you can even bike there on the trail from Mt. Horeb). We will be back and hope to stay at the Cottage on future visits.

Frank Lloyd Wright get away

The Gonstead guest cottage was the perfect place to lodge while taking in the charming town of Mt. Horeb and nearby Taliesin east (home of the aforementioned FLW). Hosts, Phil and Joy, were gracious and knowledgeable. The cottage was cozy and well appointed. For a couple of American history enthusiasts and FLW fans, staying here was pure delight. Hope to return soon!

Life is a dream

Staying at the Gonstead Guest Cottage is an incredible trip back in time. Built by a star pupil of Frank Loyd Wright, it is full of charm. Your hosts are wonderfully thoughtful, kind and generous. I will definitely be back.

Gorgeous property and unique space

Unfortunately this was not a leisurely trip for us, so we were not able to explore the town or property, but the little time we had in this rental was very peaceful. The host communicated in a friendly and timely manner. The pictures reflected space accurately and I wish I had time to learn more about the history of this beautiful property. I did notice a slight odor of what I assume must be an older heating system, although I am not sure if the heat was on (it wasn’t needed this time of year) but I have an extremely sensitive nose. Would not hesitate to book again!

Celebrating

I made a last minute decision to watch my nephew present his masters defense. I have stayed in Madison hotels and home rentals and I find them overpriced and inconvenient. The home was a beautiful sanctuary to retreat to after a long days drive. The hosts were top notch and I only wish I had more time to take advantage of the beautiful bike trails

Mt. Horeb/Clarance Gonstead Getaway Trip

Historic, very quiet, cozy place to enjoy a getaway trip. Phil and Joyce were one of the best hosts we have had the pleasure to meet. The guest house had everything we needed, and enjoyed the music system in the guesthouse! We took in the shops in Mt. Horeb and took a short trip and visited Baraboo. A great place for a couple to stay and enjoyed our visit.

Perfect little hideaway!

Cannot say enough about this cute, fully-functional space located in Mt. Horeb. Phil and Joyce have a wonderful, mid-century modern apartment filled with all the conveniences and decor becoming of such a beautiful space. We stayed during the fall, but there’s no denying how lovely the outdoor space would be in spring/summer. Unit was sparkling clean and the hosts provided an overview of the surrounding town (complete with menus for any restaurant you could possibly want. 10/10 experience, will return when we’re back up near Madison, or when we’re in for the Horribly Hilly race in the summer. Thanks to the hosts!

The Gonstead cottage was a great weekend getaway. The house itself is a beautiful piece of architecture, and in a good spot in the town. The area is beautiful and has plenty to do with restaurants bike trails, and there is even a cave nearby. Quiet and relaxing

Beautiful guest lodge. Everything in keeping with its original design and architecture. Comfortable bed, ample towels, convenient kitchen. The hosts, Joyce & Phil are very friendly & welcoming. We had a wonderful time & are glad we had the chance to stay at this unique, historical property. It is only a few blocks from downtown & the Military Ridge bike trail. Lots of other attractions nearby in the very scenic driftless area of Wisconsin.

Fabulous place to stay!

The Gonstead cottage exceeded our expectations which were high to begin with! Joyce and Phil are wonderful hosts. We had everything we needed during our week long stay, enjoyed sitting in the spacious yard in the Adirondack chairs, taking walks to downtown, and the general ambience of this very special place. We also enjoyed riding the bikes that were available at the cottage (almost daily) on the bike path in the area. The beds were comfortable and it was a very quiet spot to relax. Utterly charming! We will be back!
