On arrival, the pool was completely empty and being painted. We were not informed before travelling, even though staff admitted it had already been closed for two days. That means they knowingly allowed guests to arrive without telling them the hotel’s main advertised feature was unavailable.
This was clearly planned painting, not a sudden emergency. Despite this, management refused a refund or the option to cancel and stay elsewhere.
They offered use of a sister hotel’s pool (a drive away), but when we tried to go we were told no taxis were available. So the “alternative” they insisted was sufficient was not actually usable.
The most unacceptable part: the painting was taking place directly outside our room. I explained clearly that I am highly allergic to paint fumes and can require hospital treatment. I was told — after they spoke to the owner/manager — that if we stayed, they would stop the painting during our stay.
That was not true. It was a lie.
The next morning the painting resumed and the air was filled with strong fumes. I was effectively trapped in our room for hours trying to avoid a severe allergic reaction. This was not just poor service — it was dishonest and reckless.
Management showed no accountability, no genuine concern, and no willingness to resolve the situation properly. Instead, they misled us, refused a fair solution, and broke a direct promise relating to a serious health issue.
Also, there was a monkey in an inhumanely tiny rusty cage - so sad
