From the hamlet of Kentmere, a path leads to the mountain peaks of Thornthwaite Crag, Froswick, High Street, Mardale Ill Bell and Harter Fell.

This delightful, detached cottage has exposed beams and is set in a peaceful valley location. There is a small boot room for muddy boots and coats at the entrance. Head into the farmhouse-style kitchen and discover a charming place to enjoy candlelit dinners with a large wooden dining table, seating, smart TV and vintage wall hangings. In the inviting lounge, settle into one of the stylish sofas or armchairs around the inglenook fireplace with a roaring wood burner for cooler nights. A smart TV and cosy rugs ensure that the lounge is a place to relax. Stairs lead up from the hallway to a king-size bedroom with antique furniture and magnificent views of the valley. The compact, contemporary bathroom is next door. Outside, there is a large private garden with outdoor furniture overlooking the surrounding countryside. There is also private parking for two cars.

For a taste of the history and culture of the lakes, drive to nearby Staveley (3 miles), where the rivers Kent and Gowan flow through, with its typical Lakeland stone buildings, beautiful church, shops and inns. Also within easy reach is Windermere (8 miles) with its literary history, bustling centre and western shore walk to Wray Castle. Alternatively, spend the day in Kendal (9 miles) and shop or visit the art galleries, theatre or cinema.
