New Zealand travel can be a bit pricey. The group of us who were here to witness this glorious morning were taking advantage of New Zealand's working holiday visa. My partner and I were able to tour the islands for four months by working for a few weeks at a time. Definitely one of the best experiences ever.#goldenhour

Kapiti Island is an hour north of Wellington, New Zealand and one of the original nature reserves and bird sanctuaries here. Many go as a day trip but you can overnight on the island and go on walks looking for the endangered Kiwi, New Zealand's emblem. They are nocturnal so it's one of the best ways to see them in the wild and now you can even try glamping!
Kapiti Island a nature reserve, approximately 1 hour drive away from Wellington. You can get a ferry there for $75, which includes the DOC access pass. If you are making your own way there (eg kayak) you must apply for a DOC pass. It's our favourite reserve in New Zealand so far
