The Space:

-Respecting the Desert & Dark Skies-

This home sits adjacent to Joshua Tree National Park and is surrounded by incredible wildlife, natural beauty, and some of the darkest night skies in Southern California. To help preserve this special environment and be considerate of our neighbors, we kindly ask all guests to keep music, conversations, and other noise at a respectful level throughout their stay.



This is not a party house. Please do not book this property if you are planning to party.



Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM. All music must be turned off by 10:00 PM, and conversations should be kept at a low volume to avoid disturbing neighbors and wildlife. Only the property's built-in Sonos sound system may be used. Portable speakers, DJ equipment, amplified sound systems, and other external audio devices are strictly prohibited. Excess noise can result in county fines that will be passed on to you as the guest and the termination of your reservation without refund.



In support of Joshua Tree’s Dark Sky Ordinance and to minimize light pollution, all exterior landscape lighting automatically turns off at 9:00 PM each evening. For your convenience, we provide lanterns to help you safely navigate the outdoor areas after dark.

At Boulders Gate, the landscape takes center stage. Monumental rock formations rise just beyond the windows, and soaring ceilings and expansive glass make the desert feel like part of the home. Reimagined by Wolfgang Pichler Design, the interiors pair natural wood, stone, and handmade zellige tile with understated contemporary furnishings. Every detail feels considered, but nothing competes with what's outside.



The property unfolds across a three-bedroom main house and a separate two-bedroom casita, each with its own kitchen. It's a layout that works especially well for families and groups of friends who want to share meals, swim together, and spend long evenings outside, while still having room for different routines. With space for up to 14 guests, a private sauna, a gym, and the national park directly beyond the property, there's plenty to discover without ever getting in the car.

The outdoor spaces are designed around one of the property's greatest features: its extraordinary setting among Joshua Tree's rugged boulders. The swimming pool and adjoining hot tub sit on a generous stone terrace, with loungers positioned for taking in the sun and the surrounding rock formations. Nearby, deep-cushioned outdoor seating surrounds a fire pit, creating a natural gathering place once the afternoon begins to cool.



Meals can move outside just as easily. A built-in outdoor kitchen has a BBQ, sink, and mini fridge, while a separate dining area off the main kitchen makes it easy to enjoy dinner in the open air. Native desert landscaping and mature trees soften the modern architecture without taking attention away from the mountains.



Above it all, the rooftop deck offers an entirely different perspective. With 360-degree views, its own fire pit, and comfortable seating, it's a wonderful place to watch the changing colors of the surrounding rocks or take in the night sky.



And for guests who love exploring, the adventure begins right outside. Walk directly from the property into the boulder-filled landscape of Joshua Tree National Park, then return home for a swim or a long soak.

Inside the main house, high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows create a remarkable sense of openness. The desert is always in view, whether you're stretched out on the oversized white sectional, reading in a lounge chair, or watching the light move across the rocky hillsides.



Two distinct living areas give the home flexibility. One is arranged around the views and conversation, while the other offers a smart TV and surround sound for movie nights. Plush seating, a sculptural pendant light, warm wood accents, and a restrained palette bring softness to the home's contemporary architecture. Books, board games, and the built-in Sonos system offer easy ways to spend time together between outdoor adventures.



-Kitchen and Dining-

The main kitchen is made for cooking and gathering, with white oak cabinetry, natural stone countertops, handmade zellige tile, and a broad island where guests can sit and keep the cook company. Double ovens, a gas stovetop, and generous counter space make preparing a meal for the group feel effortless.



Start the morning with coffee from Joshua Tree Coffee Co., linger over breakfast at the island, or make dinner a group affair with the adjoining dining area. A dedicated bar area provides a spot for mixing drinks before taking them outside.



With the outdoor BBQ kitchen nearby and a second fully equipped kitchen in the casita, everyone has the flexibility to eat together or enjoy a quieter morning on their own schedule.



-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Boulders Gate has five bedrooms and five bathrooms across two separate buildings, with four king bedrooms and a bunk room designed to accommodate larger groups.



The main house contains three king bedrooms, each with a dedicated desk and ensuite bathroom.



The downstairs primary suite feels particularly connected to the landscape, with expansive windows looking directly toward the boulders, a comfortable seating area, and a beautifully finished bathroom featuring a freestanding soaking tub and walk-in shower. It's a space where even getting ready in the morning comes with a remarkable view.



A second downstairs king bedroom has its own bathroom, which can also be accessed from the main living area. Upstairs, the third king bedroom offers additional separation from the home's shared spaces, along with an ensuite bathroom featuring a walk-in shower.



The remaining two bedrooms and two bathrooms are located in the detached casita, providing a separate accommodation option for guests who appreciate a little more independence.



-The Casita, Gym and Sauna-

A short outdoor walk from the main house, the two-bedroom casita functions as a retreat of its own. With a fully stocked kitchen, private sleeping spaces, and two bathrooms, it's especially convenient for a second family or part of the group who would like their own place to unwind.



Upstairs, a king bedroom includes an ensuite bathroom with a shower. Downstairs, a bunk room with two queen bunk beds provides a comfortable arrangement for additional guests, with a bathroom accessible off the casita kitchen. The kitchen includes a refrigerator but no freezer.



The casita building also houses the property's wellness amenities. An indoor sauna offers a relaxing way to recover after exploring the rocky terrain, while a dedicated gym space makes it easy to maintain a workout routine during your stay.



The sauna, gym, and laundry room each have their own exterior entrance, allowing guests to use these facilities without walking through the casita's living spaces. The laundry room includes two washers and two dryers, particularly useful for longer stays or larger groups.

Boulders Gate sits at the edge of Joshua Tree National Park, with walking access from the property. If you want to drive through the park, use the official West Entrance. Joshua Tree town has eclectic shops, local cafes and an artistic community, and the area offers guided hikes, rock climbing and sound baths.



Guest Access:

The entire house and property are yours to enjoy! Please note that a few supply closets stay locked to store rental supplies.
