Don’t stay at this property. I’m a frequent traveler and I use vacation rentals often for the past ten years, and this was my worst experience yet. It has nothing to do with the interior of the apartment, which was charmingly decorated and well equipped. The apt is in a loud location with quite a bit of outside noise and very little insulation from sound. It’s also up on the 3rd floor with only stairs access. The issue is apparently this listing is somehow indexed from a different rental site to VRBO, and the property managers do not want to be listed on VRBO or to rent to English speakers. They do not speak English or even use a translation app to try to communicate. I should have been suspicious when I sent multiple messages on the VRBO app with no response over 6 weeks. On the day we arrived I messaged them numerous times with no response and called (the phone number goes to a voice recording in Japanese). We thought we could not enter the apt and booked the Art Hotel. I had to spend two hrs with VRBO customer service troubleshooting (they were quite helpful but did require a voice call that cost money). Eventually they helped me find the information, all in Japanese, sent by the property manager and we were able to translate it and access the property. I emailed the manager and they responded shockingly rudely, not at all typical of Japanese hospitality. They said they will not communicate via VRBO messaging as required. I reported this to VRBO. Terrible experience.
