We typically love Hilton head, but this was an incredibly negative experience from start to finish.First and foremost, we were not able to get into our unit at the planned check in time. Our entry code to the unit did not work. We called the property manager to let them know and reached an answering service. They were not able to get in touch with anyone for the property. We waited around for hours, called multiple times and got no response from the property manager. It wasn’t until later that evening someone called us back with an updated code so we could get into the unit. We essentially lost the entire first evening of our trip because they had sent the incorrect door codeImmediately upon entering the unit, we realized this unit smells strongly of CIGARETTE SMOKE. The entire unit smelled like an ashtray. Furniture, carpets, etc…. clearly a smoking unit. We called the property manager again and a maintenance man was sent over with some scented spray which did nothing to get rid of the cigarette smell.On a much lesser note, the kitchen was poorly equipped, the furniture is dated and uncomfortable in general and the “free bike rental“ that came with the unit did not show up until after 5 PM on the day we had rented them for.Very poor customer service and a very poor rental unit. We will be staying someplace different with a different property manager on our next trip to Hilton head.
