Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom hideaway sits at the heart of Dorstone, a gateway to Herefordshire’s picturesque Golden Valley. Head out from here on foot to discover beauty spots such as the Black Mountains and Hay Bluff. Follow footpaths and routes including Offa’s Dyke and Gospel Pass. The bustling town of Hay-on-Wye, 6 miles from your base, is known for its literary festival, as well as its many cafes, pubs and book shops. You can also canoe along the River Wye or venture out on two wheels to explore by bicycle. Beautiful Bannau Brycheiniog can be accessed from Hay-on-Wye. The archaeological sites of Arthur’s Stone and Snodhill Castle, featured on the BBC’s Digging for Britain, are within 2 miles of the cottage.

Make your way into this welcoming hideaway to discover your every comfort has been carefully considered and catered for. From the front door, step into the entrance hall, where you can hang your coats and jackets and slide off your walking boots. Stroll through to the spacious kitchen/diner to find it has been carefully fitted out with everything you are likely to need during your stay. For those needing to catch up on a little work, there is a desk space opposite the kitchen. While away your evenings together in the lovely lounge, with its exposed timbers and stonework. Help yourself to a book or guidebook to peruse; play a lively game or choose from the collection of DVDs. You can also stream your favourite boxset on the Smart TV. Light the wood burner in here on chilly days to bring a cosy glow to the space. One of your bedrooms, a generous king-size, with zip-and-link beds that can also be set up as two 2’6” beds by prior agreement, is also downstairs, together with a WC. Climb the stairs to the first floor to emerge on a large landing with a second reading or work space. A sizeable double bedroom and your family bathroom, which offers the choice of a shower or a bath, is also here.

Make the most of the superb, south-facing garden on fine sunny days. Relax on a sun lounger or deckchair or dine at the wooden table and benches. Sizzle supper on the BBQ and linger over a bottle of wine as the stars begin to appear. There is storage for bicycles and off-road parking for four cars here.
