Cottage in Martham, Norfolk, England

Reetgedecktes Reihenhaus mit zwei Schlafzimmern am Rande der Norfolk Broads. 300 Jahre altes denkmalgeschütztes Gebäude am Rande des Naturschutzgebietes mit traditioneller Norfolk-Kaminecke. Kürzlich renoviert und 2011 neu gedeckt. Das Hotel liegt in dem hübschen Naturschutzgebiet Martham und gegenüber der mittelalterlichen Pfarrkirche, die vom Schlafzimmerfenster aus zu sehen ist. Der kleine Hintergarten ist zur Terrasse und zum Rasen hin angelegt. Innerhalb von einer Meile von den Broads und drei Meilen zum Strand.

The cottage was very comfortable and easy to manage. The important teams were clean, but other areas were not so clean, the inside cupboards. There were a few dead insects around. The garden area was very pleasant. Although the kitchen was well equipped it was short of either an electric whisk or a manual one.

Pretty quirky cottage

Loved the quirkiness of the cottage and the history behind it- for us it was a perfect location as family live nearby. Only downside for us were the steps ( really high and steep) and the overall cleanliness let it down . The windows were dirty inside and out and there were cobwebs everywhere. Other than those issues enjoyed our stay .

Quirky Cottage

The Cottage was lovely and we enjoyed it immensely but there was a problem-I ,being elderly was not able to access the shower as there was no handrail or slip mat to assist getting into the bath which was a shame.otherwise all good .

Our stay was lovely but the stairs were really difficult! Hot water was a problem if you forgot to switch the switch. Also the Wood burner was out of action! We had a lovely time though!

Conveniently located cottage

The cottage is conveniently located in the Broads in the village of Martham. A five minute drive to Winterton gives access to the beach, which was great for walking the dog. Several footpaths around the village also provided good walks for the dog. The cottage is located on the main road through the village and the front door opens directly on the road, which made it unsuitable to use. Access is best through the garden and back door. On arrival, the cottage was very cold and was unheated. We relied on the electric heaters to make the rooms comfortable. The wood burner was fun to have, but as the sole heat source for the central heating system was barely able to warm the radiators. Consequently the upstairs rooms and bathroom were cold and uncomfortable. The cottage was tidy but could have been cleaner - not sure when the lounge furniture was last moved as the floor was dirty underneath. Thankfully the weather allowed us to get out and about and enjoy the delights of Norfolk.

Great stay

Very pleasant stay description reflected cottage. Given time of year it would of been a nice touch to if made sure that there were enough kindle and wood for at least one fire, also a small Christmas tree would of made it extra special in December, overall had a great stay and great pub in walking distance and would stay again.

Wouldn’t stay again

Perfect location for local beaches. However the bed was very uncomfortable, and stains on the pillow and bed sheet. Very old bed and mattress! Toothpaste all over the bathroom blind. Unfortunately the cottage didn’t feel clean as it should have been. Very loud traffic noise as it is on the main road.

Cosy cottage

Really enjoyed my stay, great location, nice and central for all the coastlines from Lowestoft to wells next the sea, clean, tidy, all the important amenities, WIFI was excellent, dogs loved their stay too

An old cosy terraced cottagge!

A cottage not suited for everyone but once the Woodburn was fired up and some supplied electric heaters were utilised the cottage was very warm and cosy. We stayed for a week and enjoyed it. we did point out a few things to the owner Richard who was very accommodating and I am sure the few little problems we had will be sorted before the next customers arrive.

Quaint thatched cottage, very old

However, VERY steep stairs, no upstairs toilet, very unsuitable, (no toilet) Needs mattresses replaced, and needs a dishwasher. Very quiet, but not for me, but if you love old property's, you will love it. Thank you x

good location

Great base for seeing the broads, and the east coast. Would recommend trying Cromer crab lovely. Close to Great Yarmouth, Norwich not too far, Kings Lynn along the coast road but a bit further. Lots of footpaths locally to walk the dog. Pubs were extremely friendly and would bring a bowl of water for the dog. The wind pump at Horsey was worth seeing and the seals at Horsey Gap should not be missed although we were lucky and it was a lovely day. The kitchen was very well equipped. However on the down side the shower was really just a dribble, and there was no adjustment for height or angle. The shower was over the bath, so you had the option of either, however, the bath was both deep and narrow, and therefore very precarious to get in and out of when having a shower, a mat and a grab rail would have been great, and both of these had been requested a number of times in the hand written visitor book, but have been ignored. The bed was hard and the headboard was obviously stained. We took our own towels because the website said that towels were 'available' so we didn't know if this was an additional charge, but if the the towels that were there were anything to go by thank heaven we took our own. The rear garden was absolutely great for our little dog, well enclosed with a fence and gate. Generally a property in a fantastic location, but needs more money spent on it to bring it up to a good respectable standard. Just one last point the website said that toilet roll was included, but we expected more than half a toilet roll !

Great dog walks nearby

Cottage full of character and quirky. Lovely comfy bed and also very good padded sun loungers for relaxing in garden. Met lots of very friendly local dog walkers. Richard left lots of useful information in a folder and we enjoyed exploring the area. Our two black labradors had a great time too. Would we return?Definitely.

We had a brilliant week in Martham. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped and within easy reach of the shops in the beautiful village. It is well situated for accessing the Broads, the coast and many interesting towns.

Thatched Cottage, Martham

We spent 1 week at this comfortable, cottage, very clean, everything we needed there, situated on dangerous corner, noisy traffic very close to front door. Lovely rural area, 3 miles to sandy beach at Winterton-on-sea, boat trips on the broads. Takeaway food & shopping available in Martham. Would recommend.
