We had an excellent time in the Burgundy! It started off with a warm welcome including a personal tour through the house, the huge garden and some delicious goods in the fridge. Then, the beautiful property was our home and oasis, especially on returning from a hiking, biking, golf or sightseeing tour. There are plenty of hiking / biking tours that are extremely well marked. Lots of detailed information in the house, little extra cards available in the tourist office in Châtillon-sur-Seine. We also can recommend all of the 3 golf courses we played - Tanlay (9 holes), Arc-en-Barrios (9 holes) and L'Ermitage (18 holes) - affordable green fees and well in shape.
All in all, we were surprised how friendly everybody was - seems like the burgundy is not (yet) run over by tourists ;-)
3 notes:
1.) Germans that like to watch TV: It's a brand-new TV, but the antenna is angled towards the French / British Astra satellite. You should bring some German DVDs and/or some mobile device ;-)
2.) People who like to not use their car while being on vacation: Be aware that you need at least a bike to get to the next shopping facility! If you want to explore the region, this is barely possible without taking the car.
3.) Everybody interested in coming here with a dog: Our 11-years-old Dalmatian loved it all - the shallow water next to the house and in the garden "behind the red door" as well as our tours through the forests. If you are planning to do longer hiking tours, we recommend to take enough water for the dog with you!
