"If you’re after a stunning view, Duck Bay certainly delivers – the loch is breathtaking. Sadly, that’s where the charm ends. The rest feels like a duck decoy: glossy on the surface, but hollow underneath. Reception staff weren’t rude, but they might as well have been automated – check-in and check-out were delivered in flat monotone, and no one seemed to care that my stay was merely “okay.” The room was basic, with decor so synthetic it practically quacked of plastic. The smell of it lingered until I opened the patio doors – but that just invited in mosquitos. The bathroom was worse: black mould in the shower, a glass shelf that made every bottle placed on it slide off, and water pressure so weak it barely qualified as a shower. To top it off, music from the deserted outdoor area blared into the night. Reception had already shut by 9pm, so I had to call the restaurant to have it turned down. Duck Bay may look the part, but for the price of a supposedly three-star hotel, it’s all plastic feathers and no real duck. I won’t be paddling back."

"Das Haus hat seinen ganz eigenen Charme und Historie.Die geografische Lage ist bekanntlich sehr ruhig, sonst würde man die Region nicht wählen und das Wetter in Schottland, gerade am Wasser, ist unberechenbar (September-Reise). Dafür ist der Ausblick am Morgentisch ganz toll und die Landschaft für Drohnen-Flüge sehr schön !Bei der Ausstattung war alles vorhanden, was man für zwei Wochen Urlaub benötigt, inkl. Waschmaschine und Bücher/DVD-Sammlung. Gerade der Ofen ist eine sehr feine und romantische Sache.Aufgrund des Alters des Gebäudes und Aufbau/Anordnung der Räume (Treppe; Bodenbelag etc.) sind 10* bei Sauberkeit kaum möglich, auch wenn Mike sich noch so viel Mühe gibt. Es gibt im Haus ein paar Regeln in Bezug auf Heizung und Wasser zu beachten, die aber sehr gut im Haus erklärt sind.Der Gastgeber ist sehr freundlich und unkompliziert.Die Kommunikation ging immer sehr schnell (Email oder persönlich), auch wenn es nur um Ausflugstipps oder Erklärungen zur Überfahrt nach Glasgow ging.Insgesamt ein schöner Urlaub (bis auf das Wetter).Der historische Charme des Gebäudes ist mal was ganz anderes und man darf kein 5*-Hotel erwarten.P.S.: Ja, es ist ein Fähranleger, der aber nicht aktiv in Betrieb ist. Zwischendurch parkt da eine (rote) Fähre am Pier, von der man aber nichts mitbekommt. Die blaue Fähre ankert fest weit entfernt in der Mitte der Bucht und dient als Taucherschule/-Plattform."

"Hatten einen Pod ...leider ohne Zugang zum 100 Meter entfernten See . Das Queensize Bett war viel zu weich und eng an die Wand gestellt . Das Beleuchtungskonzept schrecklich .... 6 grelle Deckenstrahler und 2 rohe Glühbirnen überm Bett .... null Gemütlichkeit. Leider . Personal sehr nett ! Essen meist lecker ! "

"relativ in die Jahre gekommen. Besonders der “Wellness und Fitness” Bereich war nicht gerade ansprechend und hat unangenehm gerochen. In der Dusche waren leider auch Schimmelflecken. Das Service Personal war jedoch freundlich."

"It should really be a 5 tar hotel but let’s itself down in too many ways. Positives: The building is beautiful. The gardens and surroundings the equal of anywhere I have stayed. Negatives: The swimming pool is the most horrendously over chlorinated pool I have been in this side of 1990. End result from using it is a severe ear infection. The decor is nice enough in a traditionally kitsch Scottish fashion, but looking a little dated. The food was okay, but nothing you won’t get in any decent pub in the UK. The continental breakfast was, by a distance, the poorest value for money breakfast I have ever paid for. We were a little late going down(9:15am) and at that stage all that remained was a couple of options for cerial, 3 croissants, and a handful of tiny pancakes. Given a few other tables joined around the same time, this didn’t go far, and it took far longer than it really should have to top up what was there, and that top up wasn’t a huge amount more than what was there when we first walked in. That said, our breakfast was probably more enjoyable than the couple who asked for a table next to one of the windows and were told thy couldn’t sit there as the tables were still dirty, and were then told that the kitchen was unable to cook an omelette. I have stayed at other McDonald Hotels and they have been excellent, but this one was a let down. It wouldn’t take a huge amount of time and effort to make it worth its name."
