My grandparents owned this property for over 20 years. When searching for a place to stay in the area for a family vacation we were over joyed to find their actual house listed and jumped at the chance to go home again.
Some updates have been made but overall the house was still just as we remembered it. My favorite part was sitting on the upper deck and looking out over the South Toe River and having my morning coffee while the sun rises or a nice glass of wine in the evening.
Beds were super comfy. Kitchen is well equipped with spices, pots & pans, and Tupperware. Plenty of room for our whole family. Neighborhood is safe, quiet and friendly.
If you have a little one be advised that 3 of the 4 bedrooms are downstairs. Kitchen, living room and 1 bedroom are upstairs. The stairs are original and the spindles are wide enough apart for a child to fit thru so you may want to bring some safety measures to prevent an accident. We used some paracord to deter our almost 2 year old from playing between the bars.
Lots to do. Plenty of yard space to run and play in. Play 18 holes at the Golf Course up the road or have lunch at the clubhouse. Hike Roaring Fork waterfall (only a mile hike, most of which is even terrain)just down the road or hike to the top of Mt Mitchell from the Black Mountain Campground (trail 2.5mi from the house 5.5 mile hike to the top) 40 drive to the top of Mt Mitchell, 1 hour drive to Grandfather Mountain, 1.5 hours to Blowing Rock or Asheville.
