Try Lake Beach, 8.5 miles away, near Poole, keeping an eye out for seals in the water. Pack a picnic and head out into the New Forest, 10.5 miles away, for the day. While away an afternoon at the National Trust’s magnificent Kingston Lacey, just 2.5 miles from your base. Explore the house and wander the gardens, park and heathland. This property is well placed for spending a great day out at Stonehenge, Corfe Castle or Paultons park, all within 30 miles.

From the small hallway, wander through to the lounge to make yourselves comfortable and enjoy a little downtime. Select a book from the shelves and sink back into the deep leather seat. Choose the sofa instead and find a film on the Smart TV that everyone will enjoy. Take a step down into the dining room to gather round the table for a hand of cards. Open the French doors from here to the garden on warm days. The kitchen, which is conveniently located next door, has been fitted out with everything you are likely to need. Whip up hearty feasts for your family or friends then carry them through to enjoy at the table. Make fresh coffee in the machine then step outside via the kitchen door to drink out in the Dorset sunshine. At the end of every fantastic day away, climb the stairs to your lovely bedrooms. These include a room with a king-size bed and additional cot or toddler bed if required, and a versatile twin zip-and-link room. The immaculate family bathroom, where you have the choice of a deep, hot bath or a refreshing shower, is also at this level.
