THIS POSTING IS A SCAM AND POSSIBLE HUMAN TRAFFICKING TRAP! I spoke with the supposed "host" several weeks in advance, and was reassured that my booking was in order. On the evening that I arrived to check in, I knocked on the door/rang the doorbell, only to find that the true owner of the home was not a host; nor was he aware that his home was posted as a Vrbo stay. I tried contacting the "host" multiple times only to be routed directly to voicemail, even though I had previously spoken to her and she confirmed that this was her property and she was the "host." I got in touch with customer service and was informed that this host has been inactive since 2023, and has her posting set to automatically accept bookings. I also reported this posting to the non-emergency law enforcement line in Lynchburg, as the only thing that kept me safe, in the middle of a severe thunderstorm during check-in, was the fact that family was dropping me off and did not leave me there without making sure everything was okay. Law enforcement shared my concerns that this could be a trap for a human trafficking ring, and that they will be investigating the posting themselves. They voiced concerns that it is possible that the host or someone working with the host could have been watching my movements, hoping that I had not shown up with other people; DO NOT BOOK THIS POSTING.
