Zen Retreat ~ Amazing Location with Wildlife, Orchard yet Close to Town

Zen Retreat is the perfect spot to embrace nature and release tension. Let worry slide from your neck and shoulders, down your arms and back, through your legs and feet, out of your body. Draw in the richness of the soil, the cool of the redwoods, and the scent of apple trees through your nose, pores and toes. This half acre haven includes certified wildlife habitat, a home orchard, redwood grove and guest garden with culinary herbs, strawberries, grapes, greens and veggies - changing with the seasons. As you stroll from native plants to the apple and pear trees, sit next to the pond listening to trickling water. Jays call to each other and deer pass through, grazing. Let go.

Embrace relaxation throughout the house too. Warm up in front of the gas fireplaces in the main house or granny unit. Cook meals with freshly harvested herbs, greens and fruits from the garden or locally produced wines, cheeses and produce - dining inside or out on the expansive deck using the gas BBQ. Snuggle with a book and beverage in the sun room. Uncork a local vintage for movie night or board games. No matter what you decide to do while staying at Zen Retreat, you'll return home peaceful.

The granny unit is a cozy little apartment with kitchen (minus an oven & stove), full bathroom (shower over tub), living room and bedroom. Whether you're traveling with friends or generations of family, it's ideal for guests who need a little more privacy..

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Zen Retreat is 6 people. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

Pets: Pets are strictly prohibited from visiting the home. The certified wildlife habitat is a sanctuary. Pets can scare the wildlife, so are not allowed on the property at any time.

Parking: There is parking for 3 cars in the graveled driveway in front of the house. The garage is available for guest use, but the doors are manual. Instructions are provided at the house. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Stairs and Uneven Surfaces:
There are several short sets of steps on the property: several steps from the driveway to the main entry area, 3 steps into the main house, 1 step into the granny unit, 7 steps from the main deck to the yard, and a flight of steps from the main deck to the laundry room under the house. Once in the main house, everything is on one level. There are paths, walkways and stepping stones throughout the property and these may be uneven - especially in the orchard and garden areas. Please step with care.

Separate Entrances: The main house and granny unit have separate entrances. While physically connected, there is not an interior passage between the two.

Fencing: The yard is not fenced and wildlife such as deer pass through regularly.

Reunion of four sisters and one niece
We loved the home in the woods. Although it rained all three days of our early March visit, the home was clean, spacious and cozily warm. We enjoyed the gas fire place and had fun playing games on the big dining room table. The house was a short drive to town where we found excellent restaurants and interesting shops for browsing. We'd like to return in the summer to lounge on the decks and walk in the woods.

Comfortable and Relaxing!
We needed some get-away "zen" time and this property did not disappoint! A lovely home, nicely furnished with comfortable beds and set in a quiet, dappled sunlight setting. Very comfortable and relaxing. No complaints but a couple of helpful notes: the steps are a bit of a challenge for seniors and a second sign for the "Zen Retreat" at the garage would be helpful. Thank-you for the stay!

Great long weekend
Zen was close to the wedding gatherings we were attending and having a completely stocked, comfortable, and warm place made coming home the desired location all weekend.

Fabulous!
We absolutely loved our stay at Zen Retreat! We went for Passport Wine Weekend in Dry Creek Valley and the location was perfect. The house was lovely. The kitchen was well stocked and the views incredible with it nestled amongst the trees. The beds were extremely comfortable. The living room was warm and inviting. Just perfect for a weekend with wine and friends.

Tranquil and green . . .
We loved the woodsy setting with all the moss and lichen - even though we couldn't really use the outside spaces because of the weather, the view of trees was very relaxing. The neighborhood is very quiet, but it's only a short walk to all the amenities of the town. The house is delightful - we loved the fireplace and under-floor heating as well as the atmospheric lighting. It seemed to be very well-equipped with everything you might need. Thoroughly recommend!

Peaceful retreat
We spent a magical few days between Christmas and New Year's at the Zen Retreat. We woke up each morning to a beautiful view of the misty forest. The property is quaint and cozy and well furnished. The are are a few things to note. The third bedroom and bath are in a separate guest cottage. This may or may not fit your family situation. If someone in your party wants a bit more privacy, it's perfect. If you want a second bathroom that's conveniently located, it may not. It was raining while we were there so we didn't bother going to the cottage very often so it was more like a 2BD, 1BA. There is no dishwasher, which wasn't a problem for us, just a heads up if you plan to cook a lot. The entryway/sun room was awesome for reading and gets great light. So does the dining room. The living room is comfy with a warm gas fireplace. It is a bit on the dark side and has lots of manual lights. They have Sonos and a big TV so it was perfect for watching movies and listening to music. Bedrooms and linens were great. The main bathroom is fine, if not a bit small. Shower and water pressure are good. Just not a lot of shelf space or places to put stuff for multiple people. We were very comfortable and cozy at the Zen Retreat!

A cabin in the redwoods
Zen Retreat is a cabin in the redwoods. Located within walking distance to downtown Guerneville (if you don't mind hills) it is a quaint place to relax after a day of exploring western Sonoma County. It's location was central to all of the wineries we were visiting. Not everything in Zen Retreat is new, which makes it absolutely charming! We had a great time and would stay here again

Family Birthday Getaway
My husband and I arrived on Thursday afternoon after a leisurely late lunch at the Russian River Brewery in Windsor. Our 30-something son and daughter joined us the next night. We all loved the serenity of the forest setting and the spacious deck and seating from which to enjoy it. We spent our mornings in the Sun porch drinking coffee and watching the wildlife, catching glimpses of deer sampling the apples and pears, and lots of birds splashing in the waterfall pond. The kitchen was well-stocked with spices, flour, condiments, dishes and cookware. We brought our own coffee and sugar to start our days. The Zen Retreat has all the amenities reflected in the property description. The house has seen a lot of history, but it has been nicely kept up and is very comfortable. Downtown Guerneville is just minutes away. On Saturday we enjoyed a lovely birthday dinner outdoors in the Garden at Boon Eat and Drink and afterward bought some hand packed specialty ice cream from Nimble & Finn’s to take home for later. Wineries abound and the Russian River is close at hand, so we had plenty to do during our stay. We enjoyed every minute and would certainly choose to stay again.
