Ich war schon einige Male im St.James, war immer zufrieden. MIr ist bewusst, dass es ein älteres Hotel mit älterer Ausstattung ist, aber unsere beiden Zimmer waren dieses Mal eine Zumutung. Die Heizung lauter als ein Düsenjet, dafür fehlende Klimaanlage. Der Wasserhahn wackelt, Lampen funktionieren erst gar nicht, Feuermeldger auf dem Flur außer Betrieb. Und die Kakerlake im Zimmer hat es auch nicht besser gemacht. Nachts kratzende/krabbelnde Tiergeräusche (Mäuse ?).
Das Personal an der Rezeption ist spitze und die Lage unschlagbar. ABer wenn nicht bald etwas investiert wird , dann bricht das ehemals wunderschöne Hotel in sich zusammen. Es mag bessere Zimmer geben, schlechter geht allerdings auch kaum.
So schade.

Dear Susanne,Thank you for your review.We are sorry to hear that, this time, the stay did not meet your expectations.The hotel is indeed an old property (it opened in 1901), but we have undergone several full renovations, the last one of which is still ongoing.As we continue with the work, ownership is studying the best options to upgrade our heating system, which can be a bit moody. Regarding the A/C system, we have window units which we install during the warmer months, and retire for cleaning and maintenance during the cold months, as New York does get pretty chilly.The fire pull-stations (not the alarms) have been fully replaced during the renovation. It isn't that "Feuermeldger auf dem Flur außer Betrieb", but that the old ones are not in service anymore because they are not needed (all hotels in NYC have at least one annual FDNY inspection that needs to be passed to continue operating, and we are fully in compliance).We are extremelly puzzled, however, by your claim about the noises at night and that you found an insect in your room; it's really an odd claim as the hotel has bi-weekly inspections conducted by an outside company to deal with this, and the housekeepers would have noticed during their (very well regarded by the reviews) daily service.
